Google opens Fiber signups in Austin, Texas

After revealing pricing last week, Google has today opened signups for Fiber in Austin, Texas. Google is starting its Austin rollout by opening signups in the southern and southeastern sections of the city. The company will expand the rollout to other portions of Austin “on an ongoing basis.” Both residents and small businesses in the pre-determined Fiberhoods can signup for the service today.

The standard gigabit+TV Fiber package will cost $130/month in Austin. For that, customers get 150 channels and a DVR that records up to eight shows at once. For those looking only for Internet service, there are two options to choose from. For $70 a month, users can get gigabit Internet service, where as a “basic Internet” tier offing 5Mbps down and 1Mbps up is available for free after an initial $300 installation fee. The installation fee is waived for customers choosing either of the gigabit tiers, assuming they agree to keep the service for at least a year. For small businesses, gigabit service is available for $100 a month.

Customers have a “limited window” to signup for the service in Austin, as Google is looking to make the rollout as quick as possible. Signup dates vary by each Fiberhood, so visit the official Austin Fiber site for more information. Google is also opening up a Fiber Space in downtown Austin today where customers can go to learn more about the service and prices.
