YouTube channel card now available, lets you promote other channels in your videos

In a recent video uploaded to the YouTube Creators channel, employees from the video platform outlined changes and new features coming soon across mobile and desktop including a new channel card. The purpose of the card is to add a heightened level of interactivity to videos by allowing creators to embed an inline link in the video player to another channel they may want to promote — maybe because they’re featured in the video, for example.

According to a tweet from YouTube, that card just went live for creators today.

Adding these new cards to your own videos is pretty simple. First, head over to the My Videos section of your account. From there you’ll see, well, a list of all of your uploaded videos. Find the one you want to add a channel card to, click the downward arrow, and choose “Cards.”

You’ll land on a screen like this:

Once there, click “Add card” and choose “Channel” at the very bottom of the dropdown. You’ll get a new modal like this:

From here you add the channel you want to promote with either the channel username or its URL. The custom message is what viewers will see when they click on the call-to-action for a card (see image at the top of this article) in the top right of the video player, and the teaser is what the call-to-action will say. Here’s what it looks like when someone clicks on one of these call-to-actions:

Finally, you can choose when one of these cards appears in your video by dragging it on the timeline:

Google also has its own support page up where you can learn more about this card and all the others, as well as how to set them all up on your videos.
