As part of its presentation this morning at IFA 2015, Sony has announced the Xperia Z5, and it looks like — unsurprisingly — the camera is where Sony is putting its focus. Sony touts that the Z5 (apparently I’ve been pronouncing it wrong this whole time) features the “best camera in a leading smartphone.”

The camera is a large 1/2.3 Exmor RS sensor at 23-megapixels, with a F2.0 G Lens. Sony says that it’s the first completely re-imagined camera since the introduction of the Xperia Z1. The camera brings the “world’s fastest autofocus,” as well as 5x clear image zoom without losing any image quality. The camera also brings much-improved low-light photos…
The company also announced two different variants of the Z5: a smaller, but just as powerful Z5 Compact, and a larger and much more powerful Z5 Premium.
Beyond the camera, all three Xperia Z5 models feature a octa-core Snapdragon 810 processor and an Adreno 430 GPU. The standard Z5 has a 5-inch 1080p screen and 3 GB of RAM powered by a 3,000 mAh battery, the Compact model sports a 4.6-inch display at 720p and 2 GB of RAM alongside a 2,700 mAh battery, and the higher-end Z5 Premium sports a large 5.5-inch 4K display and 3 GB of RAM with a 3,350 mAh battery. All three are shipping with Android Lollipop.
The Premium is probably the most notable of the three, sporting the very first 4K display on a smartphone. Yes, Sony managed to squeeze in a huge 3840×2160 resolution display, clocked in at 806 pixels per inch. To make room for all of your content, the phone sports 32 GB of internal storage, expandable by up to 200 GB by way of an external microSD card (but this goes for the standard Z5 and the Z5 Compact as well).
Of course, all three phones sport the typical connectivity interfaces like WiFi, Bluetooth 4.1, LTE Cat 6 compatibility, GPS, and NFC. As for colors, the Z5 comes in White, Graphite Black, Gold and Green, the Z5 Compact comes in Yellow, Coral, White, and Graphite Black, and the Z5 Premium ships in Silver, Graphite Black, and Gold variants.
