If the only thing holding you back from buying the awesome and super-affordable Alcatel OneTouch Idol 3 is the color choices (or lack thereof), you’ll be glad to know the company is releasing a more colorful range. The Idol 3C is identical to the Idol 3 in almost every way, except you can kit it out with an interchangeable rear shell in a choice of five “juicy” colors.
Like the Idol 3, it has a 1080p 5.5-inch fully laminated IPS display with Technicolor Color Enhance technology to boost color rendering. It also has a 13MP Sony sensor on the back and an 8MP camera on the front, joined by a pair of front-facing JBL-powered speakers. It’s equipped with LTE Cat. 4, Bluetooth 4.1, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and NFC. The 16GB internal storage is expandable up to an extra 128GB via MicroSD card and it has 2GB RAM and a beastly 2,910mAh battery.
As with the older models, it’s 100% reversible and there’s no wrong way or right way up to hold it. The screen auto-rotates, and there’s a loudspeaker and earpiece on both ends. It measures just 7.9mm thin and will come in white, red, green, pink and yellow.
Like the devices it announced yesterday, there’s no specific availability or pricing information available. Still, if you don’t want to wait for the colorful version, you can still pick up the original awesome 5.5-inch Idol 3 for $249 unlocked and off-contract.
The Idol smartphone range isn’t the only one being expanded by Alcatel OneTouch today, the company also announced a 10-inch version of its popular low-end Pixi 3 tablet. The 10-inch Pixi 3 will come in both 3G and Wi-Fi connectivity options, and will be launched alongside some colorful cases and flip covers.
“Our PIXI line is all about making your own choice at an affordable price,” notes ALCATEL ONETOUCH’s General Manager of Smart Connectivity, Vittorio Di Mauro. “The
new PIXI 3 10-inch tablet does just that, offering a complete range of choices on display size and connectivity.”
The Pixi 3 (10) has a 1280 x 800 resolution display, has a 1.3GHz dual-core processor and runs Android Lollipop. It’s equipped with a 5MP rear camera, 2MP front camera, 1GB RAM and 1GB of internal storage, expandable to 64GB via MicroSD and has a 4,060mAh battery. Again, there’s no availability or pricing information at this time.
