Leading up to Apple’s eagerly anticipated keynote presentation last night, Sony had a jab prepared for the iPhone-makers before they unveiled the iPhone 6s, Apple TV and iPad Pro. It seems, however, Sony wasn’t the only manufacturer attempting to rain on Apple’s parade. Arguably Apple’s biggest competitor, Samsung had a few of its own jibes to share with us and took to its UK Twitter handle to publish them…
There are no prizes for guessing what Sammy took aim at first. Yep: Apple Pencil. Samsung, of course, was one of the first modern smartphone manufacturers to bring the stylus back to relevancy again. Its Note series touchscreen hosts a highly sensitive array of touch sensors built specifically for the small nib of the S-Pen. In a similar fashion, Apple’s iPad Pro touchscreen is enhanced for the Apple Pencil.
Sammy was also quick to point out that six months free music streaming is better than the three months Apple is offering. It wasn’t shy in suggesting the Galaxy S6 Edge and Edge plus are much better phones, even portraying Siri as speechless about the powerful Android smartphones.
It’s not uncommon for competitors to use the hype surrounding an Apple event to take swipes at the iPhone-makers. It’s especially not uncommon for Samsung, a company which — in the past — has used Apple as the butt of all its advertising jokes. Whether it’s the fact that Apple fans line up for hours, or days, before the phones land, or because they can’t share files via NFC, Samsung has taken aim in the past. And will likely continue in the future.
Samsung recently announced its own flagship phablets, the Galaxy Note 5 and Galaxy S6 Edge Plus. And — apart from #spengate — the devices have been very well received. They have impeccable build quality, and what is regarded as the best camera on any smartphone right now. We’ve reviewed it and think it’s possibly one of the best, if not the best, smartphones Samsung has ever made. With its 5.7-inch QHD AMOLED display, 4GB RAM, octa-core Exynos chip and glass/metal build, it’s beautiful, powerful and capable. And it’s in a better position than ever to take aim at Apple. This time, it has the bite to match the bark.
