Despite saying ‘we won’t forget about you,’ Motorola forgot about the Moto E (2015)

Motorola said earlier this year at the launch of the 2nd generation Moto E that the phone would get at least some number of software updates after purchase. But today, with the company’s announcement of the phones that would be getting Android Marshmallow, there was one device curiously missing: The new Moto E…

As pointed out by Android Police, the company also mentioned that a couple carrier versions of the 2014 Moto X — both the AT&T and Verizon models — would also not be getting the update, and that Motorola explicitly confirmed this to be the case on its forum. We don’t have the same explicit confirmation for the E yet, however.

Here’s the full quote, from the Moto E marketing video posted on February 25th:

And while other smartphones in this category don’t always support upgrades, we won’t forget about you, and we’ll make sure your Moto E stays up to date, after you buy it.

If you remember, we held the Moto E 2015 in high regard in our review earlier this year. The phone has stellar battery life, just enough performance that you won’t feel like you’re missing anything, cameras that are at least half-decent, and a price tag that certainly matches the package. Sadly, if this — the fact that it won’t get Marshmallow — is true, we’re going to have to dock some stars.
