Age of Empires finally makes its way to Android, available on the Play Store now

If, like me, you grew up in the 90s there’s a very good chance you came across a certain strategy PC game called Age of Empires. In it, your mission was to explore territory, build your kingdom, defeat enemies and make allies. In a lot of ways it was similar to Sid Meier’s Civilization franchise, and it was awesome…

Now, the popular PC title has finally made its way to Android smartphones and tablets. Age of Empires: World Domination launched on the Play Store this morning. It’s free to download, but early reviews suggest many are having issues getting it to work. A number of users state they’re seeing an ‘unauthorized program’ notice when trying to play.

For whatever reason, I can’t get it to install on any of my smartphones. Visiting the web version of the Play Store tells me it’s not compatible with any of my devices, which seems very unlikely. I’m putting it down to a launch bug of some kind.

While the launch hasn’t exactly gone smoothly, there’s still a lot to look forward to when the developers finally get it installing correctly. Like the classic game you can choose from one of over 100 well-known heroes from history and legend, such as King Arthur, Joan of Arc and many others.
