Today must be HTC 10 (formerly known as HTC One M10) rumors day. Soon after it seemingly became clear that HTC was ditching its ‘One’ flagship moniker, Steve Hemmerstoffer (aka @OnLeaks) posted a handful of real-life images of a working HTC 10 prototype.
It’s the first time we’ve seen the phone from almost all angles, and gives us a much more complete image of HTC’s next flagship smartphone.
There are a couple of things worth noting from these images, first of which is the Type-C connector on the bottom edge. Like LG with its G5, HTC seems keen to adopt the more advanced, reversible connector technology.
Also interesting is that, although the phone has retained the rounded metal back, it has quite thick, obvious chamfers on the edges. This change in design — along with the lack of BoomSound and addition of a home button/fingerprint sensor on the front — should be enough to convince consumers that it’s far more than just an incremental upgrade.
While many will undoubtedly bemoan the lack of front-facing BoomSound speakers, it has enabled HTC to do something it seemed incapable of before: Making an attractive front panel. There’s no more extra-wide bezel, or ginormous bottom panel.
Of course, as important as the design changes is the list of specs that came along with the images. As has been rumored previously, it seems the device in the photos boasts a number of market-leading specifications. It should comfortably compete with the S7 and LG G5 on the performance front.
While exact details can always change between now and its launch, the prototypes specs sound positive. As we’ve heard previously, the phone boasts a QHD resolution AMOLED display measuring 5.15-inches diagonally (rounded up to 5.2-inches in older rumors). What’s more, it has a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB RAM, a 12MP camera (rumored to be the Sony sensor from the Nexus 6P) and the Type-C connector.
Not to be outdone by his device-leaking competitor, Evan Blass was quick to reply to the prototype images with a press render showing all the phone’s angles and edges. It shows the camera protruding slightly from the back, sitting center alongside a dual LED flash and laser-autofocus sensor.
On first impressions, it looks like a pretty hefty phone. Still, the rounded back should make it feel really comfortable in hand, while the chamfered and polished edges will undoubtedly help give it a very premium look. What I really like is the way it looks as though the glass on the front curves towards the edges, just like the One A9.
For the first time in a couple of years, I’m excited about HTC’s next phone. How about you?
