As a follow-up to the Chromebook 14 announced last month, Acer announced the Chromebook 14 for Work this morning. The rugged Chromebook is meant for businesses, features a spill-resistant keyboard, and has been tested to military standards.
The Chromebook 14 for Work meets various military standards and can withstand drops from 48-inches, high and low temperatures, humidity, vibration, rain, sand and dust. It features a spill-resistant keyboard that protects against spills with the help of a gutter system under the keyboard and touchpad that drains liquids through two drain holes located at the bottom of the chassis.
The laptop also features Gorilla Glass, but not on the actual screen. Corning recently announced a damage-resistant glass that can feature high-resolution photo-realistic images. This Vibrant Gorillas Glass is on the lid of the Chromebook 14 and will allow businesses to print logos or other designs.
Like the Chromebook 14 and Haier Chromebook, the ‘for Work’ uses Intel’s sixth generation Core processor. The biggest benefits come in battery life with the full HD model getting 10 hours, while the 1366 x 768 screens gets 12 hours. Acer notes that the 14-inch display fits into the chassis of a 13-inch screen and has narrow bezels. It weighs 3.2 pounds and is .88-inches thin.
There are several configurations featuring 2, 4, or 8GB of RAM and 16 or 32GB of storage. The Chromebook features a USB 3.0 Typc-C port for fast data transfer and can be used to power external devices. There’s also an HDMI port, dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.2.
Acer is also offering a USB Type-C dock that features a DisplayPort, HDMI, two USB 3.1 Type-C ports, and three USB 3.1 Type-A ports. The Chromebook 14 for Work will be available in May starting at $349 in the US.
