‘Together’ for Android Wear is being shut down on September 30th

androidwear_together

About a year ago Google introduced a new feature to Android Wear in “Together”. The watchface/app allowed quick communication between couples or friends in the form of emojis, photos, sketches, and more. Today however Google has revealed that the app will be shutting down.

In the latest update to the Android Wear application for Android, Google has embedded a notification (via Android Police) explaining that “Together” will be shutting down on September 30th, mainly due to Android Wear 2.0.

With the release of Android Wear 2.0, many of the best features of Together will be integrated directly into the platform so you can connect with more people using your favorite messaging services. In addition to emoji, you’ll be able to use Smart Reply, keyboard, or handwriting on the watch screen.

You’ll also be able to customize a number of different watch faces with useful data from your favorite apps.

Thanks for using Together. We have had some great feedback and used this to make Android Wear 2.0 the best way to stay connected with the people you care about most.

This date could reveal that Android Wear 2.0 is preparing to roll out publicly, however that’s is not very likely given the fact that we’ve only gotten one update to the Developer Preview so far. Since most Android Wear watches will be getting 2.0, this change shouldn’t be too big of a problem for most users. That said, we don’t know what lies ahead for the watches that won’t be updated.
