CyanogenMod 14.1 based on Android 7.1 is available now for several devices including the Nexus 6P, OnePlus 3

Android 7.1 has been off to an odd start. While the OS is already running on Google’s Pixel smartphones, it’s only available as a developer preview for supported Nexus devices. However, that’s not stopping the team at CyanogenMod from putting together a new ROM based on Google’s latest OS.

Available now, CyanogenMod 14.1 is based on Android 7.1 Nougat and, at least for now, is mostly stripped of features aside from what comes with stock Android. As an example, CyanogenMod’s Themes functionality is not available yet.

The first push of devices includes a list of nine different devices, although you’ll need an unlocked bootloader to install the ROM on any of them.

  • Nexus 6P (angler)
  • Nexus 5X (bullhead)
  • Xiaomi Mi3w/Xiaomi Mi4 (cancro)
  • LG G3 (d855)
  • Moto G (falcon/peregrine/thea/titan)
  • LG G4 (h811/h815)
  • Samsung Galaxy S5 (klte/kltedv/kltespr/klteusc/kltevzw)
  • OnePlus 3 (oneplus3)
  • ASUS ZenFone 2 (Z00L/Z00T)

Steve Kondik also mentions that “Bug reports are OK,” although he asks users not to file bugs for missing features since the ROM is still a work in progress. There’s also a call for users to get involved with the project as well since “CM is returning to its community-driven roots and there are endless ways to help out.” More devices will be added to 14.1 over the coming weeks as well.
