Photo purportedly shows Galaxy S8 with its screen on, but there’s no on-screen buttons [Update]

We’re a few weeks away from Samsung’s first official teaser of the Galaxy S8, but while the company is finishing up the device in the background, the leaks are still slowly coming out. This morning, we’re getting a new peek at the Galaxy S8 from the front in our first looks at the phone with the screen turned on….

Previous “hands-on” photos of the Galaxy S8 have revealed a lot about the hardware, but today’s leak is the first that shows us just how thin those bezels really are. On this model, we see that the screen curves off of the edge gently. This appears similar to the curve on the Galaxy Note 7, which is thankfully much less dramatic compared to the Galaxy S7 Edge. It’s also comforting to see that this photo shows both a 3.5mm headphone jack and a USB-C port.

Along the bottom of the device, we also see that slim bottom bezel which now lacks Samsung’s signature buttons. Personally, I’ve been looking forward to this change. However, that’s because I prefer on-screen buttons, which this photo lacks.

Rather, this image shows the app on-screen extending right down to the bezel. Of course, many would mention that this is just pre-release hardware/software, but that wouldn’t answer how Samsung is controlling the software here. It’s possible that Samsung decided to stick with capacitive buttons, but that feels unlikely given how slim the bezel is, and how uncomfortable that would make using the phone.

Of course, we’ll have to wait and see what happens when the Galaxy S8 is officially announced, but it’ll certainly be interesting to see what the company decides to do. Would you prefer capacitive buttons along the bottom bezel as opposed to on-screen navigation? Let us know in the comments.
