YouTube Go makes its debut on Android with offline-centric viewing experience

In the latter half of 2016, YouTube announced plans for a new app, YouTube Go. Designed to minimize cellular data usage, the app was destined for a debut in India and today, it’s finally available.

YouTube Go was designed with developing countries in mind that have less access to the internet. To assist users in watching videos from their favorite channels, the app allows videos to be downloaded overnight. The app also allows users to pick and choose different resolutions to save videos in and control their data usage.

Further, the app shows previews of videos in the form of a GIF to help you decide whether or not you’d like to download it.

One of the app’s most interesting, and potentially most useful features is its sharing options. Users can easily share video they’ve downloaded on their devices with friends via Bluetooth, allowing other users to watch the same video without using any cellular data.

Unfortunately, YouTube Go is only officially available in India for the moment, and Google has yet to reveal when it will be expanded to other regions. Further, the app is still in beta, so be aware that there may be some issues.
