Alcatel debuts three new affordable phones at MWC including one with crazy LEDs on the back

Today at MWC 2017, Alcatel has debuted three new affordable Android smartphones —  the Alcatel U5, Alcatel A3, and Alcatel A5 LED.

These three new devices from Alcatel all introduce a couple of new lines for the company: the A and U lines. All three also cater to different aspects of the mid-range market, but with a special emphasis on millennial customers across the board.

The first of the three is the Alcatel U5, a 5-inch entry-level Android smartphone designed to offer the bare bones in a colorful, attractive package. The 5-inch display comes in at just 480p and the rest of the specs are along the same line with a quad-core 1.1 GHz processor, Android Marshmallow, a 5MP rear camera, and just 8GB of storage and 1GB of RAM.

Obviously, the Alcatel U5 is a very low-end offering, and its price tag will presumably reflect that. Unfortunately, Alcatel hasn’t revealed any details as regards the pricing or availability.

Further, there’s the Alcatel A3, another device sporting a 5-inch display, but this time at 720p with a 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 16GB of storage, a 13MP camera, and Android Marshmallow. It’s a pretty respectable offering on paper, but it’s standout features are in the hardware. Those include front facing speakers, a fingerprint sensor, and a grippy back. Pricing hasn’t been announced, but this will also likely hit a very low unlocked price point.

Lastly, we have the Alcatel A5 LED. This is easily the most exciting of the lot, offering a “dazzling” LED panel that covers the entire back of the phone. It offers the ability to light up for incoming notifications and display various LED patterns based on your designs, daily themes, and even reacting to music on your device.

As for specs, the A5 LED offers a 5.2-inch 720p IPS display, Android Marshmallow, an octa-core 1.5GHz processor, 16GB of storage, 2GB of RAM, and an 8MP camera on the rear. Pricing on the A5 LED has also yet to be confirmed.
