Google Assistant can now control LG Smart appliances including AC, fridge, and more

Google Assistant’s smart home controls started off slow, but it’s quickly become a solid hub for controlling your home full of smart devices. Today, LG has announced that its portfolio of smart appliances are now compatible with Google’s AI.

LG’s various smart home appliances include refrigerators, air conditioners, ovens, washers and dryers, and much more. There are nearly 90 appliances now compatible with Assistant, and that means you can control all of them from your phone, Google Home, and now, even certain headphones.

Assistant’s control over an appliance depends on the functions that appliance can perform. For example, you might ask Assistant to tell the fridge to make more ice, or preheat the oven before you start cooking.

LG smart appliance owners can now have the Google Assistant help them around the house with their connected LG appliances. For example, they can use simple voice commands from anywhere within range of the Assistant on Google Home (or on their smartphone) to check the time remaining during wash cycles on their washing machine, tell their LG refrigerator to make more ice, turn off their range after cooking, adjust thermostat settings on their LG air conditioner, and even check the air quality level in their home using their LG air purifier. The Assistant on Google Home can also distinguish one voice from another, so it can be personal to just you.

This functionality launches today for everyone, and LG is even giving new buyers a special deal. If you pick up an LG Smart Wi-Fi appliance from retail stores between October 8th and October 25th, you’ll be eligible for a free Google Home unit.

LG Electronics USA today announced that almost 87 Wi-Fi connected LG smart home appliances – including washing machines and dryers, refrigerators, ovens, dishwashers, vacuums, air purifiers and more – are now compatible with the Google Assistant on Google Home and eligible Android and iOS smartphones.
