MediaTek is gearing up to release the next flagship SoC in its lineup – the Dimensity 9300. The chip is set to compete with Snapdragon’s upcoming 8 Gen 3 and offerings from Exynos for another year.
In an official leak, the Dimensity 9300 has nothing to hide about what it brings to the table – or at least the next year of select smartphones. At its core, the MediaTek Dimensity 9300 utilizes a quad Cortex-X4 configuration (via GSMArena). One is set to be the main powerhouse core while three others will run at a lower GHz reading – 2.85GHz compared to 3.25GHz.
In total, the Dimsneity 9300 is an eight-core processor, so the other four cores will clock in at 3GHz and be listed as Cortex-A720 units. Sources also state that the GPU will consist of an Immortalis G720.
Early Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 leaks suggested a similar four-core setup, but it’s been recently rumored that the SoC will only consist of one powerful Cortex-X4 cluster instead of the four listed in the Dimensity 9300 core configuration. Experience tells us that pure specs and numbers don’t justly determine how a chip performs, and three additional power-hungry core clusters will theoretically bump the Dimsnity 9300’s power. Still, they will require more energy and, in turn, give off more heat. And heat kills performance.
The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 and Dimensity 9300 score similarly in early pre-release benchmarks, so it will be interesting to see how each holds up in real-life usage. It isn’t expected that we’ll see the Dimensity 9300 for a few months after that November 6 release date. Once it makes its way to an upcoming device, that will be the true test of what it can do.
