Google’s wind-down of 2023 continues with the annual “Year in Search” video, though the company this year eschewed the usual theme format by recapping trends from the past 25 years of Search.
Accessed from today’s animated Doodle or directly here, we get a large playground that’s more or less a theme park. (It’s somewhat reminiscent of the Google I/O Adventure experience.)
You have to find 25 of the most-searched people, places, and moments. Categories include Music, Arts & Science, Games, Culture, and Travel. You can tap each illustration for a text clue that helps narrow down your literal search. There’s also a compass next to the clue if you need something more precise.
There are various Google easter eggs throughout like the Android and Chrome logos, as well as the Dino.
With a matching soundtrack, it’s all quite whimsical. It’s quite fun to just zoom in and roam around on desktop, but the experience is also nice on mobile.
