Pixel Fold 2 renders reveal bigger displays, inner bezels, ultra-thin design [Gallery]

Google’s Pixel Fold 2 has already leaked, but now we’re getting our best look yet through CAD-based renders that show off the wild camera bump, reveal the bigger size, and also show the inner display bezels.

Posted to SmartPrix, these renders of the Pixel Fold 2 show the device in line with previous leaks. The new design has a taller, rounded outer display, a new camera module that’s a huge departure from the past several Pixel designs, and some other tweaks too. But this latest leak offers some additional details.

Firstly, there’s the size of the device, which is much bigger than the original Pixel Fold.

@OnLeaks claims that the inner display will measure 7.9-inches (8.1-inches with corners). That’s up from the 7.6-inch inner display of the original Pixel Fold. Another big tweak to that inner panel is a smaller and uniform bezel around the entire display. It seems to still be marginally thicker than foldables from Samsung and Oppo, but toned down considerably from the first generation. The inner selfie camera would apparently move under the display, much like Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold series.

Meanwhile, the outer display also gets much bigger on Pixel Fold 2.

The 5.8-inch display we loved on the first generation is swapped out for a taller and larger 6.4-inch display (6.6-inch with corners).

Dimensions of the Pixel Fold 2, when folded, come in at 155.2 x 77.1 x 10.54mm. That’s well up from the 139.7 x 79.5 x 12.1mm of the first generation, but the device would be considerably thinner. In fact, it would rival the Honor Magic V2, which is the thinnest foldable currently at 9.9mm when folded.

Why go with a taller/slimmer outer display over the original fold? That was one of the best features. Hopefully the redesign of the camera module wasn't changed just to change it either.

The new camera module, as pictured in a previous leak, is split into two sections and no longer makes up the width of the device. Despite the new design, though, the number of cameras appears to remain at just three, with a flash and microphone on the right side of the cameras.

The updated hinge design looks quite a lot like the OnePlus Open, notably, with a rounded display meeting with the sharper corner of the hinge. In fact, aside from the thickness, the OnePlus Open has virtually the same display sizes, and appears to have a very similar aspect ratio too.

The Pixel Fold 2 is expected to launch later on this year with Google’s updated Tensor G4 processor.
