Oppo confirms it will keep making foldables following ridiculous rumor

With examples such as the Oppo Find N3 (aka the OnePlus Open) out in the wild, it’s ridiculous to think that Oppo could throw in the towel and give up on making Android foldables. But such a rumor was making the rounds recently, and Oppo says that’s false.

A report from HankYung last week claimed that, due to “significantly” falling market share, Oppo and Vivo would cease production of their Android foldables going forward.

According to Oppo, though, this simply isn’t true.

Speaking to GSMArena, Oppo reiterates its “dedication” to foldables.

Needless to say, it’d be quite shocking for Oppo to throw in the towel at this stage. The company’s first generation was mostly limited to China, but the Find N2 Flip and Find N3 Flip made their way to the global stage, while the OnePlus Open copied the Oppo Find N3’s form factor, but brought it to the global market, including the United States.

Oppo, in a press release earlier this year, cited data from Counterpoint Research saying that the company managed to capture 20% of Chinese foldable market share through the first half of 2023.

Of course, there can always be a shred of truth to rumors, even ones as unbelievable as this, so it will be interesting to see if there are any changes going forward with Oppo (and/or Vivo) foldables.
