Google is rolling out a new Chromecast with Google TV update with the April 2024 security patch. It follows the last release in early April.
STTE.240315.002 (from STTL.240206.002) brings the Android security patch level to Apr 2024 (from Mar 2024). It is not yet reflected in the changelog.
Today’s 134MB update slots in-between the previous 72.55MB patch and the 169MB Fast Pair + Audio output switcher release in February. “Other bug fixes and performance improvements” are noted in the release notes.
This marks the fourth Chromecast Google TV update in five months — February, March, April, and May, with Google continuing to outpace the 2023 cadence: January, April, May, July, October, December.
Since the last update, there’s been a number of Chromecast developments. We reported that a 4K Chromecast with Google TV sequel with a new remote is coming, while Google shared at I/O 2024 that the dongle will soon act as a Google Home hub.
On your Chromecast with Google TV, go to Settings > System > About > System update. There is also a small firmware update (26.6 -> 26.7) for the Voice Remote: Settings > Remotes & Accessories.
More on Chromecast:
- Chromecast with Google TV will soon act as a Google Home hub
- Google probably won’t make that high-end Chromecast you want, and that’s okay
- ‘Chromecast with Google TV’ is not a good name
