Samsung hasn’t updated any of its Wear OS-powered Galaxy Watch models in months

Samsung has been working on its next major Wear OS update for quite some time now, but has left nearly all of its Wear OS-powered Galaxy Watch releases in limbo, with no updates being released in several months now.

Wear OS 5 with One UI 6 Watch is Samsung’s next big update for Galaxy Watch. The update first debuted on Galaxy Watch 7 and Galaxy Watch Ultra earlier this year, but has yet to be released for the rest of the series. It’s been in beta for a while, with that beta ending in October, but the vast majority of Samsung’s Galaxy Watch customers are still back on Wear OS 4.

But, as has now been pointed out, that wait has led to a much bigger problem.

As GalaxyClub reports, Samsung hasn’t updated any of its older Galaxy Watch devices since shifting focus to Wear OS 5 and One UI 6 Watch. Galaxy Watch 4, Watch 5, and Watch 6 releases are still stuck on updates and security patches dating back to the first few months of this year, specifically the March 2024 security patch.

That’s a long time without an update for these existing watches, but the situation isn’t much better for the latest releases. Galaxy Watch 7, Watch Ultra, and Watch FE are also months behind, still running the June 2024 security patch, albeit with the latest Wear OS 5 software.

Samsung hasn’t commented on why all of its smartwatches are months out of date when it comes to security patches, but this wouldn’t be the first time patches have seemingly slipped the company’s mind. Early this year, we discussed that many Samsung phones were months behind on Google Play system updates, an issue Samsung fixed after it was brought to light. Hopefully, the same thing will happen with Galaxy Watch.

With Samsung’s Wear OS 5 beta having come to an end recently, it’s certainly a signal that a public rollout isn’t too far away, but Samsung hasn’t made any announcements regarding that release.
