Pixel Tablet sequel allegedly would have had 120Hz screen and 4K display output

While Google’s upcoming Pixel Tablet has reportedly been shelved, the device reportedly would have delivered some welcome upgrades including a 120Hz display and support for 4K display output.

The Google Pixel Tablet is far from a perfect product, despite having some charm to it, and many were hoping that sequels would end up addressing some of the clearly lacking aspects. We’ll have to wait longer to find out, though, as the first sequel, known as “Pixel Tablet 2,” has reportedly been canceled. The moniker “Pixel Tablet 2” is utterly meaningless with that in mind, but the device, codenamed “kiyomi,” apparently had some solid upgrades in the works.

It’s already been reported – months ago – that this upcoming Pixel Tablet sequel would have been powered by Tensor G4 and have introduced 5G connectivity, but a new report from Android Authority reveals a couple of other key specs.

That starts with the built-in display, which would have been a 120Hz LCD panel. That’s a considerable upgrade from the 60Hz panel in the existing Pixel Tablet which feels considerably behind the times, especially at the tablet’s price point. The 10.95-inch panel was previously said to have slightly thinner bezels in a similar overall design too, and this report adds that it would have been about 10% brighter. The selfie camera also was reportedly planned to be 10MP using the Samsung S5K3K1, a sensor that apparently was not planned to support Face Unlock from the Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 series. The same sensor, though at 11MP, would also be used on the back with autofocus.

Other upgrades include Thread support as well as a slightly bigger 7,200 mAh battery.

The “Pixel Tablet 2” would have also offered DisplayPort output up to 4K resolution, something the original doesn’t support at all. Combined with the desktop mode that Android has been building out, this certainly could have been an interesting offering.

Alas, this specific device seemingly won’t be making it to market, though another “Pixel Tablet 2” is likely still in the pipeline.
