Google Wallet for Wear OS adding corporate badges, campus IDs, and more

Last December, Google Wallet gained support for loyalty cards and passes on wearables. Google Wallet for Wear OS is soon getting support for “access cards,” like work badges or student IDs.

Like on phones, Google Wallet will let you “use your hotel keys, campus IDs, and corporate badges on Android wearable devices” (Wear OS). All three are convenient when your hands are full, with Wallet announcing support for hotel keys in June.

This comes a year after support for passes with QR codes or barcodes on Wear OS. Before that, the Wallet app on your wrist was just for credit or debit cards and some transit. Back in September, the Wear OS client added support for archiving and accessing “Archived passes” at the very bottom of the feed, as well as grouping.

Officially, this is rolling out with version 24.47 of Google Play services, which is not yet widely available. It might take a bit more time after that for this capability to actually hit your device.

In other Google Wallet developments, the website is now available in over 90 countries. Introduced in April, wallet.google.com lets you see saved payment methods and passes, while also showing a transaction history.
