Pixel Phone app adds Christmas & Fireworks Audio Emoji, tests new video call button

The latest round of Pixel Audio Emoji celebrates Christmas and the New Year, while the broader Phone by Google app is testing a more prominent video calling shortcut.

Following Halloween, there’s now a Christmas Tree emoji in place of the Party Popper. The accompanying animation also features jingle bells and Santa’s sleigh with reindeer. Meanwhile, the Crying Face emoji has been temporarily replaced by Fireworks with a rocket ship kicking things off.

We’re seeing the Christmas and New Year Audio Emoji with version 156 of the Pixel Phone app.

Meanwhile, you already have a “Video call” button on the calling screen after tapping More. You might also see it in the form of a suggestion chip, with both starting a Google Meet (legacy) session.

We’ve now received one report (non-Pixel device) of Phone by Google testing a video call button in the top-right corner of the screen. It’s the same icon, but much more prominent.
