Roku is adding picture-in-picture for monitoring cameras on the TV, more

Roku is adding a new feature that allows users to put a camera feed into a picture-in-picture window on the TV, among other new additions.

As announced previously, Roku is launching a few new features for its smart home experience, starting with a web viewer at cameras.roku.com. From there, owners of Roku security cameras can view the live feeds from virtually any device via the browser. The “Camera Carousel” is also now rolling out with the ability to effectively turn your Roku TV into a security monitor. You can also now get notifications for events captured by the Roku cameras on your TV.

You’ve always been able to receive alerts on your phone when your camera detects pets, packages and people, but now you will have the option to get these notifications directly on the Roku-powered TV. Whether it’s your cat causing mischief or your baby waking up from a nap, you can now be instantly notified of events detected by your Roku Smart Home camera. Simply open settings to turn them on—included with your Camera subscription.

The biggest new addition, though, comes in the form of picture-in-picture support on Roku.

Available on “most” Roku TVs and 4K players, picture-in-picture support allows users to stream a live feed from their Roku cameras without leaving the content they’re currently watching.

Roku explains:

Pin your camera feed to the TV screen while you stream your entertainment, so you never miss a moment of the action. This feature is compatible with all Roku indoor and outdoor wired cameras, and available on most 4K Roku Players and TVs.
