This is what you think was the best Android phone of 2024

After thousands of votes, we now have an outright winner for the best Android phone of 2024 – here are the results of our public vote.

Unsurprisingly – insert <shocked Pikachu face> – you voted for a Pixel 9 series handset as your “Best Android phone of 2024,” with the new form factor Pixel 9 Pro winning narrowly over the big boi Pixel 9 Pro XL by just a few percentage points.

The smallest flagship-level Pixel since the Pixel 5 is, in our opinion, a worthy winner. That said, we do cover Google in detail here, so it’s still not all that much of a shock to see many of you lauding the entire series. What’s more, over 50% of your votes went to a Pixel 9 handset:

  • Pixel 9 – 6.89%
  • Pixel 9 Pro 23.78%
  • Pixel 9 Pro XL – 22.07%
  • Pixel 9 Pro Fold – 2.99%

A shocking result came as Sony Xperia fans turned out in force to back the Xperia 1 VI. With over 12% of your vote, this was enough to earn it a third place on your list for the best Android phone for 2024. One complaint that can be leveled at the Xperia series is the lack of real marketing Sony’s handsets receive pre and post-launch.

It is one of the few Android phones with a 3.5mm headphone port, microSD card expansion, and other hardware functions that many OEMs ditched years ago. It’s a true blue enthusiast phone that—in many ways—deserves a spot among the best of the year for catering to those people. The biggest downside? It’s not officially available in the United States. Despite this limitation through lots of official channels and carriers, Sony is still selling the device on Amazon, which is strange but at least you can get one of the best phones of the year.

This was enough to pip the Galaxy S24 Ultra – another strong candidate for the best Android phone of 2024 in its own right. The Samsung superphone was awarded just 11.53% of your votes.

Coming up behind the S24 Ultra was the OnePlus 12 with just 4.63% of your vote share. The drop off is quite stark and it was just a four horse race at the top. Around 100 of you voted for the “Other” device category but only reader Edward put forward a candidate – the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate. The tri-fold phone looks very impressive, but is a hard recommendation due to the software limitations, limited availability, and exorbitant cost.

The lowest-ranked phone was the Xiaomi Mix Fold 4. There was just 1 vote for the foldable phone, but that is somewhat understandable given that it is a China-only device. The full 25 device standings are below (data correct as of 12/22):

  1. Google Pixel 9 Pro: 1,238 votes (23.78%)
  2. Google Pixel 9 Pro XL: 1,149 votes (22.07%)
  3. Sony Xperia 1 VI: 643 votes (12.35%)
  4. Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra: 600 votes (11.53%)
  5. Google Pixel 9: 358 votes (6.88%)

  7. Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold: 157 votes (3.02%)
  8. Samsung Galaxy S24 / 24+: 157 votes (3.02%)
  9. Google Pixel 8a: 126 votes (2.42%)
  10. Other: 99 votes (1.90%)
  11. Honor Magic V3: 58 votes (1.11%)
  12. Xiaomi 14 Ultra: 55 votes (1.06%)
  13. Oppo Find X8 Pro: 47 votes (0.90%)
  14. Honor Magic 6 Pro: 45 votes (0.86%)
  15. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6: 43 votes (0.83%)
  16. OnePlus 12R: 41 votes (0.79%)
  17. Nothing 2a: 31 votes (0.60%)
  18. Samsung Galaxy A55: 24 votes (0.46%)
  19. Motorola Razr Plus (2024): 23 votes (0.44%)
  20. Nothing 2a Plus: 23 votes (0.44%)
  21. Samsung Galaxy S24 FE: 22 votes (0.42%)
  22. Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 6: 15 votes (0.29%)
  23. Motorola Razr (2024): 7 votes (0.13%)
  24. Xiaomi Mix Flip: 2 votes (0.04%)
  25. Xiaomi Mix Fold 4: 1 vote (0.02%)

Do you agree with your peers in which is the best Android phone of 2024? Is the Pixel 9 Pro a worthy winner albeit by a very slim margin? Let us know down in the comments section below. For what it’s worth, I voted for the OnePlus 12, but my second choice would have been the Magic V3…
