For many YouTube TV viewers on Roku, a problem with fast-forwarding while watching DVR recordings is causing playback problems as the content is left frozen.
Recordings are a huge part of the appeal of YouTube TV, so when there are issues, it causes a lot of frustration for users. For many on Roku, that’s exactly the problem, as an ongoing YouTube TV issue is causing playback of recordings to freeze.
For the past couple of weeks, some YouTube TV subscribers on Roku have noticed that trying to fast-forward recordings leaves playback frozen. The only fix is to fully exit the YouTube TV app and then return later and restart the recording. The problem is limited to Roku devices and not present on others, including Google TV devices.
YouTube TV is aware of the problem and looking into reports, so a fix is likely coming soon.
In the meantime, one Reddit user found a potential workaround. Apparently, fast-forwarding one “step” at a time leaves the content playing as usual. This only works to a certain point, as going more than a few steps forward will freeze the content. Others say that changing quality seems to force the frozen content to resume. In either case, it’s not an ideal fix, and Google will need to step in to patch things up.
