Google appears to be preparing ‘Time zone change’ notifications for Android

Android may soon pick up a new option to send a notification to users after an automatic time zone change update.

As it stands today, your Android device will automatically change its time zone as you travel. This is convenient, but it can also potentially be a bit confusing on a long journey, as the time may change unexpectedly. For example, when connected to a flight’s Wi-Fi, you might see the time zone change multiple times, which could make it harder to know how much time has actually passed.

That’s why a new “Time zone change” notification setting in Android may come in handy in the future.

The folks over at Android Authority spotted a new option in development behind the scenes of Android 16 Beta 1. Set to appear in Settings > System > Date & time, this new toggle would let you “receive a notification when your time zone is automatically updated. The notification, when it arrives, will tell you which time zone you’ve switched to.

There’s no timeline on when Google may end up rolling this feature out, but it’s very possible it could debut in Android 16.
