With the Pixel 10 update, Google introduced a convenient “Read aloud” feature for the Screenshots app.
When you take a screenshot of an article and open it, there’s a new “Read aloud” chip. This opens a fullscreen player with the article’s full text, which is highlighted as you progress, with the app already saving URLs at capture time. Pixel Screenshots notes how long the article is and lets you thumbs up/down.
Controls at the bottom let you play/pause and go to the previous/next line. You can also “Select language for audio”: Arabic, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Estonian, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hungarian, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Malay, Norwegian, Polish, Portuguese, Romania, Slovak, Spanish, Swedish, Thai, Turkish, and Vietnamese.

Honestly... I'm not sure what they're doing, between adding this "read aloud" feature to Google Screenshots, stuff like the AI music composer to Google Recorder (rather than implementing an export of the recording to Pixel Studio and managing the AI music creation over there), etc.
Things that are definitely something cool and useful, but not in the places where I'm sure most people would expect to find them - for instance, they still haven't replaced the perfectly functioning and useful "read aloud" Google Assistant command they introduced with Pixel 8 serie (yet they've introduced a ton of other "read aloud" stuff fragmented in all different places).
That said, does anyone know whether with this new update of Pixel Screenshots will actually save the article metadata and text in the moment the screenshot is taken, or if it will fetch the article text when you go and tap "read aloud"? If the former, does that mean Read aloud also works offline?
Thanks!
The Playback speed options are: .5, .75, 1, 1.25, 1.75, and 2x. You also get system media controls, with playback continuing outside the app and when the screen is off.
This joins other options like Chrome’s Listen to this page and Android’s Reading mode app.
Screenshots’ Read aloud capability is available on the Pixel 9 (with last week’s update) and Pixel 10 series. Both generations also get NotebookLM integration for relevant content. Chips appear both in the corner preview and the screenshot page.
Version 1.25.242.10 also introduces some Material 3 Expressive tweaks, like how the FAB (floating action button) on the homepage is now a rounded square. Otherwise, it’s a less drastic redesign compared to other Pixel apps.
