‘Moto Tag 2’ leaks with new colors, mystery changes for Android’s only UWB tracker

Android’s Find Hub network has just one tracker equipped with the UWB capability found in Apple’s AirTag, and now it’s getting a sequel in the just-leaked “Moto Tag 2.”

The original Moto Tag launched in 2024 as a Find Hub tracker for Google’s network, but it wasn’t until earlier this year that the tracker finally unlocked support for UWB through a long-overdue app update. To this day, it somewhat-bafflingly remains the only Find Hub tracker with UWB.

Following in the footsteps of other recent tracker refreshes from Chipolo and Pebblebee, Motorola is also apparently planning a new version of the Moto Tag, aptly named the “Moto Tag 2.” The folks over at Android Headlines obtained a marketing image showing off the new tracker in beige and orange colorways. The existing model is available in green, with a blue color available in a 4-pack.

The report itself is lacking any tangible information about the tracker, though, so we don’t know much about what’s coming.

That said, there is a glaring tidbit right in that image. Shown front and center is a little cutout in the top of the device that’s not present on the prior model. It’s unclear what that might be, but we have a couple of guesses. One of those would be perhaps a secondary speaker cutout to boost the volume. The existing Moto Tag has a cutout on the back. Another option would be a new means of opening up the device to replace the battery. The first Moto Tag uses a slide motion to open up that compartment, but it’s not easy, so having a little cutout to perhaps use a SIM tool or paperclip to unlock the battery compartment would go a long way.

But, at least for now, we just don’t know what to expect.

What would you want to see from Moto Tag 2?

The same post notably also shows off the unannounced 2026 refresh to the Moto G Stylus, but there are no major details provided on what the device might bring to the table. Based on the rest of Motorola’s 2026 Moto G family, it probably won’t do much.
