Google is rolling out an update to the Gemini app today that better displays information pulled from the Google Maps extension.
Previously, prompts that invoke Google Maps resulted in responses that were primarily text with a map view at the end featuring pins showing the locations Gemini found.
Gemini can now “serve up local results in a rich, visual format” with the ability to see “photos, ratings, and real-world info.” In the example Google shared today, you get a map first and foremost with emoji-themed pins that better distinguish places.
Locations are accompanied by cards that feature an image and star rating, with the rest of the response continuing after that. Google shows how you can tap to see cards for:
- People talk most about
- Review summary
- Tips from reviewers
These are Gemini summaries of Google Maps reviews, with the full app recently adding something similar to all place listings.
This Google Maps update is rolling out now to the Gemini app on desktop and mobile in English.
