Samsung TVs adding Google Photos, and it sounds just like the Google TV integration

Samsung has announced plans to bring Google Photos support to its TVs, and it sounds a lot like what we already see on Google TV.

Google Photos is one of, if not the single-most popular photo/video backup service available today, which makes integration with devices in your home pretty appealing. That’s one reason many love the Nest Hub, and it’s also been a key selling point of Android TV and Google TV devices for years, as your screensaver can become a rotating slideshow of your favorite memories from Photos.

Now, Samsung is planning to integrate Google Photos on its TVs for the first time.

In a post, Samsung explains that it plans to bring Google Photos integration to its TVs in 2026. This would start in “early” 2026 with the integration of Google Photos “Memories,” something that would be exclusive to Samsung TVs for a while before presumably making their way to Google TV. Samsung further plans to bring support for Gemini Nano Banana-based AI image generation and “Personalized Results” sometime “later in 2026.”

  • Memories (planned to launch exclusive in early 2026): Shows curated stories based on people, locations, and meaningful moments for the first time on TV, available first and exclusively on Samsung TVs for six months.4
  • Create with AI (planned to launch later in 2026): Introduces themed templates5 built on Nano Banana, Google DeepMind’s image generation and editing model, featuring playful and fun transformation. Users can also utilize Remix to transform the art style of an image or Photo to Video to bring still moments to life as short videos.
  • Personalized Results (planned to launch later in 2026): Users may view related photos as a slideshow based on topics or contents of memories e.g. ocean, hiking, Paris, etc.

While some details are still unclear, this is a direct partnership between Samsung and Google, and the first of its kind as Photos integration on the TV has been limited to Android TV and Google TV for the better part of a decade.

Some have mentioned this as a Google Photos “app,” something that even Google TV (and Android TV) technically lack, but Samsung’s description directly goes against that.

Samsung wants Google Photos to be deeply woven into the TV experience. Imagine Photos surfacing naturally through Daily+ and Daily Board, ensuring that meaningful memories greet users throughout their day in contextual and convenient moments. The setup should be simple — users sign in with their Google Account, and their photo memories instantly appear on the big screen.

Rather than being an “app,” this all sounds just like taking the existing Google Photos integration found on Google TV and bringing it to Samsung TVs. Google TV users can already see personalized galleries of photos from their library as a screensaver, and Google added AI image generation in 2024. The only new thing is “Memories” support, but Samsung’s specific mention of 6-month exclusivity heavily implies that Google’s own platform won’t be too far behind.
