OnePlus Open 2 leaks with killer specs, but it’s reportedly being canceled

The OnePlus Open is perhaps one of the best foldables ever released, which is why it’s been so confusing that a sequel never hit the market. Apparently, a “OnePlus Open 2” was on the table again for release in late 2026, but the device is said to be getting canceled.

Tipster Yogesh Brar reports on Twitter/X that the OnePlus Open 2 is being canceled. SmartPrix builds on that, saying that the device was originally planned for a global launch in Q3 2026.

Apparently, a prototype of the OnePlus Open 2 was seen by a source speaking to the outlet, with the device having been in “advanced testing stages.” The Oppo Find N6, like its predecessor, will apparently bring the hardware to select markets.

The OnePlus Open sequel, according to this report, was supposed to launch with an 8.12-inch inner display and a 6.6-inch cover display, both touting the same 165Hz refresh rate as the OnePlus 15. The foldable also would have packed a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, 16GB of RAM, and 1TB of storage. It also would have had a 6,000 mAh battery, 80W charging, three 50MP rear cameras, and selfie cameras of 32MP and 20MP for the outer and inner displays, respectively. A prototype had a faux black leather finish.

It’s not exactly clear why OnePlus ditched another foldable follow-up, but it’s a shame to say the least.

OnePlus previously skipped a direct sequel to the Open, saying that it was “the right approach” at the the time, but leaving the door open to future sequels.

Meanwhile, Oppo is said to have not one but two new book-style foldables in the works for 2026. SmartPrix further claims that the Oppo Find N6 will be a sequel to the Find N5 and, by extension, the original OnePlus Open, with a Q1 2026 release and a familiar overall design. But later in the year, the Oppo Find N7 would offer a wider design akin to what Apple is planning for the iPhone Fold. The same wide design that Oppo originally used in its foldable designs.
