Belkin reminds users that its Wemo smart home products are shutting down this week

Belkin’s now-ancient Wemo smart home products are set to shut down later this week, years after their launch, in one of the most notable closures of smart home tech.

Wemo smart home devices were sold by Belkin primarily in the 2010’s, with Belkin having mostly stopped making its smart switches and plugs around 2022. Last year, Belkin announced that the discontinued lineup, which integrated with Google Home, would have it services shut down for good in 2026, and now that date is approaching.

In an email to its users this week, Belkin reminds everyone that the Wemo app and “cloud-based features” will be shutting down on January 31 with no functionality remaining. The only way to continue using these devices will be through Apple HomeKit, which only works with select products.

We’re reaching out with a final reminder that support for select Wemo products in the Wemo app will end in one week on January 31, 2026. After this date, the Wemo app and cloud-based features such as remote access and voice assistant integrations will no longer function. If your Wemo product is set up for use with Apple HomeKit, it will continue to function with Apple HomeKit after January 31, 2026. If your Wemo product works with Thread, it will continue to function with Thread after January 31, 2026.

If your product is still under warranty on or after January 31, 2026, you may be eligible for a refund.

Please visit belkin.com/wemo for more information on affected products, refund eligibility and setup instructions for continued use via Apple HomeKit. After January 31, 2026, you will no longer be able to setup your Wemo product to work with Apple HomeKit, so you must do so before that date if you want to use your Wemo product with Apple HomeKit in the future.

Products that will continue to work through Apple HomeKit:

To help minimize disruption, several Wemo products will still function locally through the Home app:

  • Wemo Smart Light Switch 3-Way (WLS0403, WLS0503)
  • Wemo Wi-Fi Smart Light Switch with Dimmer (WDS060)
  • Wemo Smart Light Switch (WLS040)
  • Wemo HomeKit Bridge (F7C064)
  • Wemo Dimmer Light Switch (F7C059)
  • Wemo Mini Plugin Switch (F7C063)
  • Wemo Outdoor Plug (WSP090)
  • Wemo Mini Smart Plug (WSP080)
  • Wemo Stage Smart Scene Controller (WSC010)
  • Wemo Smart Plug with Thread (WSP100)
  • Wemo Smart Video Doorbell (WDC010)

We know this change may disrupt your routine, and we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience. We thank you for your support and understanding.

While it’s not unprecedented for smart home devices to cease cloud operations, it is pretty rare, especially from recognizable names.

For those that have been using Belkin’s smart home devices in Google Home, they’re out of luck as of January 31. There’s no way to continue using these devices, even over a local network as is possible with Matter.
