Google today also announced a “new Google Photos picker in Gmail” for iOS.
When composing an email, iPhone and iPad users should be on the lookout for a new “Google Photos” item in the Attachment menu. At the moment, your options are Drive, Files, Camera, and Photos, with the latter opening the system picker.

The new Google Photos interface will let you “instantly share photos and videos through the picker which automatically uses your signed-in Gmail account to access your Google Photos library.” As such, “no additional authentication or permission is required to share.”
To find albums, you can use the search bar at the top. The grid allows you to select multiple photos and videos.
- Search bar: Find the exact photos you’re looking for. Search results can match album names and can display your recent searches.
- Multi-selection: You can select multiple photos and videos at the same time.
This functionality is already available on Android via the system Photo Picker.
We’re not seeing the new Google Photos picker live in Gmail for iOS yet. It should be rolling out via a server-side update. Make sure you’re on the latest version of the app.
