There are a lot of reasons to use a cloud backup service like Google Photos, but one of the many perks is the ability to access your full library of photos from any device. However, a sync bug with Google Photos that’s affecting a number of users has left that ability partially broken.
A number of users have noticed in the past few days that, all of the sudden, their new photos and videos aren’t showing up on other devices such as tablets, other phones, and more.
The problem appears to be with sync on Google Photos specifically in regards to a device pulling new photos and videos from other devices, not actually backing the photos up. Your main device as well as the Google Photos website show new photos, videos, and albums as expected, it’s just other devices using the mobile app that seem to be the problem.
Users first reported the problem late last week (around February 12-13) with threads on Reddit and Google’s support forums showing a number of affected users across both Android and iOS. While the issue doesn’t seem to have been isolated, it doesn’t look all that widespread either, and we haven’t been able to replicate the issue on our end.
Google hasn’t acknowledged the problem beyond generic support replies on social media. If you’re still running into this problem, let us know in the comments below, or on the new 9to5Google Forums.
