Google Maps for Android, iOS rolling out gradient icon redesign

As we previously reported, Google Maps is now rolling out a new gradient icon on Android and iOS.

This new icon is still a pin, but the shape has been modernized. The top ring is noticeably thinner, while the inner circle is significantly larger.

Google has gotten rid of the diagonal partitions for the four-color Gemini and AI-inspired gradient.

The icon is still recognizable, but the updated proportions might take some adjustment.

This is beginning to roll out with version 26.09.06.873668274 of Google Maps for Android. Meanwhile, version 26.09.5 brings the updated icon to iOS.

In recent months, Google Maps has picked up a number of new Gemini integrations. The most prominent is a conversational navigation experience that replaces Google Assistant. It can also be leveraged for traffic reporting. Google is also bringing Gemini to Google Lens in Maps. On listings, there is also “Know before you go.”

Google Maps joins Photos, Home, Gemini, and Search with the new gradient icon.
