Spotify is once again expanding its AI-powered “Prompted Playlists” to bring podcasts into the mix.
“Prompted Playlists” in Spotify angle themselves as a way to control the algorithm that delivers music recommendations, with users being able to prompt the AI to steer the direction of a playlist. It launched in a limited release in December 2025 before expanding to the US and select other regions in January.
Now, it’s expanding to more types of media.
Spotify has announced that Prompted Playlists can now incorporate podcasts when generating a playlist based on your prompt.
Starting today, Prompted Playlist is expanding beyond music to now include podcasts. Launched earliery this year in beta, this feature lets you steer the algorithm by creating playlists based on your listening history and real-time signals on Spotify, including trends and charts, so the playlist reflects both your tastes and what’s happening in the world around you.
This can include new shows, as well as just finding specific episodes that match the topic you’re looking into through the podcast. You can have these podcast playlists refreshed on up to a daily basis, just like the song-based playlists.
Spotify also provides a few examples of how you might use this:
To explore big ideas in science and innovation
- Prompt: Build me a podcast playlist all about science and innovation. Include big discoveries, weird breakthroughs, and things I had no idea I needed to know about.
To catch up on the latest pop culture
- Prompt: Create a podcast playlist with the biggest entertainment news from the past few days. Include all things music, film, fashion, and major cultural moments.
To get lost in a true crime mystery
- Prompt: Make a playlist of true crime investigations you think I’d be interested in. Add highly rated series with lots of twists and turns.
This is rolling out now to Premium users in the U.S., Canada, U.K., Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, and Sweden as a part of the ongoing beta release.
