Back in October, YouTube announced a new timer that would let you limit how often you use Shorts and for how long and, now, that’s being expanded to let you effectively turn off Shorts.
YouTube’s October announcement revealed a new timer that would let users be prompted after they surpassed a certain amount of time using Shorts. Originally, times ranged from 15 minutes up to 2 hours.
Now, there’s an option for zero minutes.
YouTube confirmed to The Verge that the option to set a YouTube Shorts timer of zero minutes is “live for all parents, and is currently being rolled out to everyone.”
The feature effectively lets you turn off YouTube Shorts, as setting the timer to zero removes Shorts from the YouTube homepage. You’ll still see them in the Subscriptions feed, though, and you can view individual Shorts if you want to. The limit pauses scrolling – if you scroll down, you’ll see a full-screen notice that you’ve “reached your Shorts limit.”
