Galaxy Z Fold 8 to shrink the selfie camera cutout – is that something you care about?

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 sounds pretty familiar based on initial leaks, but Samsung is apparently making a tweak to the selfie camera cutout that sounds interesting, but I’m curious if it’s something anyone really cares about.

According to Ice Universe, Samsung will shrink the Galaxy Z Fold 8’s selfie camera cutout, on the outer display, by a considerable margin. Side-by-side, the different looks are immediately noticeable.

Where the Fold 7’s cutout is 3.7mm, the Fold 8 drops that to 2.5mm (in diameter).

As mentioned, it looks like a pretty big difference, and reclaiming screen space while making cutouts less noticeable is always nice to see.

But, was this really important?

I’m a Galaxy Z Fold 7 user on the daily – I bought this phone with my own money. It’s a great device, but one where Samsung has plenty of room for improvement. Heat management, battery life (and size), dust down the hinge crease, and more are places I’d love to see improvements long before the selfie camera cutout ever comes to mind. Samsung is certainly capable enough to fix more than one problem at a time but, as the industry continues to move forward, I’m really hoping there wasn’t much time spent on this versus the laundry list of other problems that need to be addressed…

Am I alone? What do you think? Do you care about the selfie camera cutout’s size? Let’s discuss!
