Samsung Wallet ‘Trips’ wants to create a more seamless travel experience than Calendar

The new ‘Trips’ grouping in Samsung Wallet will become the go-to spot for reservations, tickets, and other travel plans.

Samsung says that an update to Samsung Wallet will allow users to add hotel confirmations, flight itineraries, car rentals, and excursions to a new “trips” card. The grouped reservations will appear as a card in the Wallet app, providing a quick way to access your trip details.

In a quick look at the feature in Samsung’s press release, it looks like the trip card will open up to a time and location-based timeline. The feature image shows off a flight and hotel reservation alongside two events. Samsung says that manual events can be added, too. Each of those will have an optional memo line for additional details.

The feature is reminiscent of the Google Trips app in its prime, though its features remain scattered across Google’s other apps.

The most functional way to plan travel using Google’s tools is with Calendar, which becomes the default for saving hotel and flight confirmations. But the trips feature in Samsung Wallet makes a tempting argument for those who want a more seamless hub for reservations and tickets. Even Samsung Calendar lacks the uniform appeal of a ticket hub that lets users access all the records they need on the go.

That’s even more the case with Samsung Wallet’s ever-growing ID support.

Google Wallet also offers the option to save many of the same tickets and reservations, but it lacks a method for presenting them in such a way that lends itself to travel. As opposed to a Google Wallet card view that can feel a little disorganized at times, Samsung’s trips feature seems like a good alternative.

Samsung says Trips in Wallet will be available this month on most Galaxy devices. In the US, that means devices running Samsung Wallet version 6.4.97 or higher.
