Samsung Galaxy Watch 9 might get another Classic and Pixel Watch raise-to-talk

According to new code-based evidence, Samsung might be planning to launch back-to-back generations of its “Classic” style with the Galaxy Watch 9 series, as well as picking up the raise-to-talk feature from Pixel Watch.

Over its Wear OS renaissance, the Galaxy Watch lineup has gone back and forth each generation with the “Classic” model, the one with Samsung’s beloved rotating bezel mechanic. It was on the Watch 4 series, dropped on Watch 5, revived for Watch 6, skipped on Watch 7, and brought back again last year on the Watch 8 series.

By that pattern, there shouldn’t be a Galaxy Watch 9 Classic, but it seems that’s what we’re getting.

The folks over at Android Authority uncovered three codenames in an undisclosed Wear OS update – “fresh9,” “wise9,” and “projectv2.” These align with last year’s codenames which included “fresh8” for Galaxy Watch 8, “wise8” for Galaxy Watch 8 Classic, and “projectx2” for Galaxy Watch Ultra (2026). Notably, Galaxy Watch 6 Classic carried the codename “wise6bs,” further pointing to this watch being the Classic style versus anything else.

Also in the code was a hint that Galaxy Watch 9 might get the raise-to-talk feature from Pixel Watch 4.

Google’s code references raise-to-talk on Pixel Watch 4 as “RttSettingsManagerPixelWatch,” and this recent update apparently added “RttSettingsManager3pWearOs,” hinting at third-party support for other Wear OS smartwatches. Given how close Samsung and Google hadve been working on Wear OS in recent years, it only makes sense for Galaxy Watch 9 to be among the first to get this support.

Samsung is expected to launch the Galaxy Watch 9 series in July alongside its new foldables.
