Samsung Health app is getting a big AI-centric redesign ahead of Galaxy Watch 9 [Gallery]

Samsung is expected to launch its new Galaxy Watch 9 next month and, ahead of that, the Samsung Health app is getting a big redesign with lots of AI.

Following the new Google Health rollout last month and as the company gears up for its next smartwatch, Samsung Health is getting one of its biggest updates in recent memory. The update, which starts rolling out on June 8, turns Samsung Health into an “AI-powered health platform” with a few key additions.

First, “Vitals” is a one-stop shop for heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin temperature, and blood oxygen stats so you can easily see if anything is out of the ordinary at a glance.

A “Heart Health Score” is also being added which is based on factors such as “sleep, stress, and activity” combined with body composition data.

“Daily Cardio Load” will measure “accumulated cardiovascular strain” through the day to help users hit their activity goals, with the app setting targets for users to hit.

Finally, the “Fitness Index” will analyze metrics such as “heart rate, VO2 max (a key measure of aerobic fitness), and daily steps against users’ peers to gauge exercise efficacy.” showing an overall score as well as breaking the score down into strength, flexbility, endurance, cardio, and body composition sectors.

Samsung teases that this new Health app is the start of a new future for the company’s fitness efforts, “a future that will be fully realized with the launch of Samsung’s next generation of Galaxy watches, engineered to bring proactive intelligence to life like never before.”

So, while there’s not much being said about the Galaxy Watch 9 here, this is clearly Samsung’s first hint at the fitness-focused and AI-centric wearable. All of these new features leverage AI, so it’s clear that’s the direction Samsung (like everyone else) is headed in.

Galaxy Watch 9 is expected to launch in late July.
