Honor has officially shown off its Android 17 update, MagicOS 11, which is easily the most blatant copy of Apple’s Liquid Glass design language we’ve seen to date.
Apple’s somewhat divisive Liquid Glass design language in iOS was always going to be copied by Android brands. While Google itself says Liquid Glass won’t happen in Android (i.e. on Pixel), there’s a long history of Android brands, especially the ones in China, blatantly copying iPhone design traits and features. With Liquid Glass, there are a couple of examples of this already, with Oppo’s ColorOS 16 and Vivo’s OriginOS 6 both clearly taking cues from the iPhone.
But Honor really takes the cake here.
Shown in a number of videos posted to Weibo this week, Honor teases its Android 17-based MagicOS 11 update which, for lack of a better term, is a clone of Liquid Glass throughout. The videos teasing the update showcase the waterdrop-like buttons, light refractions, and glows found throughout iOS nowadays. It’s pretty shameless – not that that’s a surprise.
Below, you can see a combination of all of the clips Honor shared (at least the ones we’ve been able to access through Weibo and as shared on Telegram), as getting to some of them on Weibo can be a bit difficult.
As HuaweiCentral details, Honor is now testing MagicOS 11 on the Honor Magic 8 series – including Magic 8, Magic 8 Pro, Magic 8 Pro Air, and Magic 8 RSR Porchse Design. The update is expected to launch sometime later this year for other Honor devices.
