Philips Hue Bridge Pro update seems to be breaking the hub, taking lights down with it

An issue with a Philips Hue Bridge Pro update seems to be completely breaking the hub for some users, leaving lights and other accessories unable to be controlled.

The heart of any Hue setup is the Bridge, and the Bridge Pro that arrived last year was a huge upgrade over what came before. Expanded capacity, faster processing, and new features were a welcome improvement.

But, right now, there’s a problem.

HueBlog cites reader emails as well as a Reddit thread where users have found their Philips Hue Bridge Pro units effectively broken. Firmware update 2071353020 seems to be the culprit, though it’s a lottery of who is and is not affected. Those who run into the faulty update see the lights on the bridge go red, and their setups broken. A reset doesn’t fix the issue, meaning a new unit – hopefully provided by Hue support – is the only way to get things back up and running. That in itself is also a big issue, as it means setting up your entire collection of lights again from scratch.

Users can turn off auto updates through the Hue app (Settings > Software update > Automatic updates) to ensure they don’t run into problems until a patch is available.
