Philips Hue Bridge Pro update seems to be breaking the hub, fix now available [U]

An issue with a Philips Hue Bridge Pro update seems to be completely breaking the hub for some users, leaving lights and other accessories unable to be controlled.

Update 7/14: A couple of weeks later, Philips Hue is rolling out a new update to fix this problem. According to HueBlog, less than 100 users were actually affected before the previous update was stopped, but it’s version 2071401010 that puts this bug to rest.

Resolved an issue that could cause the Bridge Pro to enter an unrecoverable state when automatic updates had been disabled for an extended period and a pending update was started manually.

Our original coverage follows:

The heart of any Hue setup is the Bridge, and the Bridge Pro that arrived last year was a huge upgrade over what came before. Expanded capacity, faster processing, and new features were a welcome improvement.

But, right now, there’s a problem.

HueBlog cites reader emails as well as a Reddit thread where users have found their Philips Hue Bridge Pro units effectively broken. Firmware update 2071353020 seems to be the culprit, though it’s a lottery of who is and is not affected. Those who run into the faulty update see the lights on the bridge go red, and their setups broken. A reset doesn’t fix the issue, meaning a new unit – hopefully provided by Hue support – is the only way to get things back up and running. That in itself is also a big issue, as it means setting up your entire collection of lights again from scratch.

Users can turn off auto updates through the Hue app (Settings > Software update > Automatic updates) to ensure they don’t run into problems until a patch is available.
