Has Google Chrome been randomly signing you out of your accounts? [Poll]

A weird issue floating around Google Chrome users for the past couple of months randomly signs users out of their accounts – have you run into this problem?

Your Google account is a key to huge swathes of the web, so getting signed out is more than a bit annoying. Within Google Chrome, that sign-in also enables sync for history, bookmarks, and more.

So it’s not all that surprising that a bug causing users to be signed out of their Google accounts is making some noise among Chrome users. Two members of the 9to5Google team have noticed this issue pop up on our own machines, and we’re far from alone. Over the past month especially, there have been lots of scattered reports of this behavior floating around the web.

Yes. If this is the same issue I ran into. My working theory was DPAPI on Windows. In my experience it happens usually right after starting up the machine. The browser will slow to a crawl during open and then account tied to the main browser profile will disappear and require reauthentication. It signs me out of all sites on the profile and I have to reauthenticate with my phone PIN to use passkeys stored in GPM as well.

First occurrence was about 2-3 months ago. And it happened regularly almost once or twice a day for a week. I tried letting Gemini 3.1 Pro through Antigravity with procmon and other tools diagnose the behavior. It didn't verifiably find any root cause so I nuked my entire chrome data in user directory then reinstalled chrome from MSI, but that didn't work. Thankfully it stopped sometime after that, so I didn't manually investigate further, and only happened again last week a single time. I believe it surfaced on my one W11 (insider experimental channel) machine, though the recent event may have been on a seperate W11 (stable) laptop.

From the links it's happening on macOS as well. I'll have to keep an eye on this. It was very frustrating at the time. Seeing it resurface last week gave me immense dread.

There’s no clear rhyme or reason to this. One user says it happens “every few hours,” another “weekly.” In my case, it seems to happen whenever I have more than three Google accounts signed into the same Chrome profile. It only happens on the desktop browser, with mobile apps not affected.

Whatever the cause, it’s obviously annoying!

While there have been plenty of reports, they’re still scattered and, as far as we can tell, Google hasn’t formally acknowledged the issue.
