You can finally watch Netflix content in 4K resolution through the Google Chrome browser, but it only works on one platform.
While one of the great things about streaming services is that you can use them virtually anywhere, they’re also notoriously picky about 4K streaming based on what device you’re using. Netflix in particular has lacked support for 4K streaming through the web except in some select methods, but that’s now expanding to Google Chrome.
In an update to a support page (via FlatPanelsHD), Netflix confirms that it now supports 4K playback via Google Chrome.
However, Netflix 4K playback is only available through Google Chrome on Windows 11, assuming your machine is compatible, and Chromebooks. macOS and Linux installs do not support 4K playback at this time. Windows 10 is also not supported.
As far as hardware requirements go, your Windows PC will need an Intel 7th Gen CPU or newer or an AMD Ryzen CPU. You’ll also need an Nvidia GTX 1050 or AMD Radeon RX 400 series or newer GPU. HEVC support and updated drivers may also be required.
Microsoft Edge on Windows and Safari on macOS also support streaming Netflix 4K via the web.
