The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is an absolute smash hit and, with that in mind, Samsung is reportedly doubling down on the form factor with a second wide device now in the works for the Galaxy Z Fold 9 series, making for a total of five new foldables in 2027.
ETNews reports that Samsung has once again expanded its plans for new foldable releases in 2027. Already expected were sequels to Galaxy Z Fold 8 (wide), Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, Galaxy Z Flip 8, and a new Galaxy Z TriFold, but now there’s a fifth device in the works. This is apparently a second device using a similar wide form factor to Galaxy Z Fold 8.
It sounds like it’s early days for this new addition to the lineup, with specifications largely unclear. However, the report does mention that this new device is apparently geared directly at video consumption – something Samsung insists the Galaxy Z Fold 8 is better for than it actually is.
The report claims that Samsung is building this new foldable with the idea to “create a screen aspect ratio optimized for video viewing,” rather than using the same 4:3 aspect ratio as the Galaxy Z Fold 8. It remains to be seen exactly what that might be, but 16:9 or 16:10 would be likely candidates for Samsung’s target, we’d guess.
Samsung would likely launch this device and the rest of its foldable lineup in the second half of 2027. Meanwhile, Galaxy Z Fold 8 is now available.
