A new report details Google’s plans to completely end production in China as soon as next year, while the company is aiming to sell around 13 million Pixel phones in 2026.
Nikkei Asia reports that Google will finally complete its long-running effort to move production of its various devices out of China, instead focusing on manufacturing in Vietnam and India. A report earlier this year claimed that Google would mostly leave China in 2026, but this latest report details that Google will move all production of “all of its Pixel smartphones, watches and wireless earbuds” outside of China in 2027. Efforts around this move have been underway for years, with reports dating back as far as 2019.
According to the report, the Pixel 11 series was both developed and produced entirely in Vietnam, giving Google “confidence” to move the rest of its catalog out of China in 2027.
But there are some other interesting details in this report.
First and foremost, Google Pixel apparently shipped around 12 million phones in 2025, with plans to increase that by “8-10%” this year, meaning a total of around 13 million. That’s despite the ongoing “RAMageddon” situation, with skyrocketing costs having also resulted in price hikes on Google’s latest Pixel 11 series. Apparently, to help lessen that burden as much as possible, Google has been bundling orders for Pixel components with those from its cloud business to up its negotiating power.
A source familiar with Google’s plans explained that the company’s strategy around Pixel in 2026 is to “attack” and grow “at all costs.”
The strategy for the Pixel phone this year is: Attack. We are told Pixel phones need to keep their shipment growth momentum at all costs
